Efficiency

Power grid frequencies (50 and 60 Hz) limit speed of electric motors to 3000 rpm (3600 rpm). Increasing a torque, that consequently increases size and weight, can increase output power of the motors. These synchronous, induction and AC permanent magnet motors and generators are used in industry but we can also find them in our, refrigerators, air conditioning systems, washing machines and other domestic equipment

Materials used in electric motors saturate and can not transport an infinite volume of a magnetic field.
Therefore, smaller motors have to use relatively more magnetic materials. Their efficiency is 60% to 75%, whilst bigger motors achieve efficiency up to 95%.


AMM Technologies increases efficiency of electric motors and generators, saving electrical energy.

The standard, 550 Watts (W), 74% efficiency electric motor wastes 137 Watts of supplied power. The same power AMM, 84% efficiency motor wastes only 88 Watts. It means that the AMM motor saves 36% of energy wasted in the standard motor. For the standard 90 kilowatts (kW) motor with 90% efficiency, 9 kW is wasted. The AMM technology increasing efficiency of the motor to 93% saves 30% of the wasted energy.

What the savings mean in dollars ?

Assume that the motors are working 8,000 hours per year.
With energy priced at $0.05/kWh (United States), the Annual Dollars Saving of 550 W motor is 0.55 kW x 8000 hrs x (100/74 - 100/84) x $0.05/kWh = $35.42
In the case of 90 kW motor the Annual Dollar Saving is 90 x 8000 x (100/90 - 100/93) x 0.05 = $1290

High Speed

Torque and rotation determine motor's power. Therefore, motors having lower torque and higher rotation can achieve the same output power as motors having lower rotation and higher torque. Commutators and brushes are using to increase rotation and decrease size and weight. However a commutation generating friction, sparks, radioelectrical interference and noise decreases efficiency of the motors

Efficiency of factional horsepower commutator motors does not exceed 70%. Sparks prevent using them in damp and explosive environment.

Variable speed AMM motors run from 3,000 to 24,000 rpm with zero RF emissions, almost zero noise and overheating, easily achieving efficiency exceeding 80%. The motors operate safely in damp and explosive environments, under water and even immersed in petrol

Adjustable Torque & Speed

 

Currently produced portable drilling machines are often supplied with speed adjustment. However, as they are working under serial characteristics, the adjustment does not allow torque regulation. The machines adjusted on a low speed do not start and after further pressing their triggers they suddenly start achieving very high speed. The machines do not run as adjusted and their real speed is resulted from no load speed and friction occurred during drilling. Each user finds the disadvantage.

AMM drilling machines, working under parallel characteristic, have constant (and adjustable) torque at very wide range of variable speed. This means that the AMM drilling machines can start with the torque required for proper drilling and at variable speed exactly as adjusted. The torque adjustment available in the AMM motors allows reduction of unwanted gearboxes, and further decreasing weight of the drilling machines.

The adjustable torque and speed predominate the AMM motors in using them in power tools and other electrical drivers including electric cars and locomotives.

 

Noiseless

 

Commutators motors generate tremendous noise of 69 to 100 decibels (dBA)

High speed AMM machines are silent. Only bearings and fans generate their noise, not exceeding 50 dBA.
Vacuum cleaners, power tools and other machines using the AMM motors would be extremely silent.

 

Safety

 

The AMM motors do not generate sparks. The AMM vacuum cleaner can suck moisture without danger of electric shock. The AMM hair dryer dropped into water does not cause electric shock.

The AMM vacuum cleaners, drilling machine and other AMM portable tools can safety work in environment of explosive gasses in petroleum, textile and mining industries without danger of an explosion

The AMM motors can safety work immersed in petrol. The AMM fuel pumps do not ignite petrol vapors, reducing the possibility of vehicles exploding due to a collision.

 

Lightweight

 

Commutators and brushes increasing speed of electric motors reduce their weight. However, the speed is generally limited to 15,000 - 20,000 rotations per minute.

The AMM motors easily achieve 50,000 rpm. Further decreasing weight of the AMM motors is achieved by their unique construction. The AMM motors would be lighter and smaller over current motors of the same power output. Efficiencies of fractional horsepower motors would be increased on 10-35% and more, with new motor design approaches also allowing miniaturization far beyond current possibilities.
